Meliá Bali  is an exotic beachfront resort located on Bali’s south eastern coast in Nusa Dua. It is a stunning resort in a secluded environment perfect for a relaxed vacation away from all the hustles. The entire property with contemporary décor is spread across huge 10.7 hectares, houses lush green lawns, private beach, swimming pools, five restaurants serving different kind of cuisines, Spa and large gardens.

Pros:

  • Stunning property in a quiet location perfect for a relaxed vacation
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Comfortable arrival and departure lounge for early arrivals and late check-outs.
  • Good packages to pick if you want to include food, drinks etc. (I do not recommend since food and drinks are bit costly)
  • Five in-house restaurants including a beach facing bar cum restaurant with different cuisines, Japanese, continental and Indonesian.
  • Excellent customer service
  • Possibility of upgrade if rooms are available
  • Express check-out facility

Cons:

  • A bit far away from major sight-seeing places
  • Food and drinks are bit costly
  • Wi-Fi is not that great

I and my husband visited Bali in the month of May for our honeymoon. Since we wanted a luxurious celebration, Melia seemed like a perfect place. May is nor an extreme peak season and neither an extreme low season. Weather is pretty pleasant, mildly crowded and in fact super comfortable in every aspect. My husband wanted to surprise me and decided to keep me out from the planning process. As soon as I set foot on the property, my all tiredness from a long haul flight instantly vanished and I fell in love with my husband all over again.

Check-in and waiting lounge

Check-in time: 15:00

Check-out time: 12:00

The waiting lounge is comfortable with showers and free snacks for early arrivals and late check outs.

We reached early in the morning and luckily we didn’t have to wait very long to check-in. We had a booking of “Premium room garden view” but were lucky enough to get an upgrade to “Family room”.

Pricing and booking

We had gone during mid-level peak season and thus, the price was not sky rocketing. It was around 10000 INR for premium room garden view for a night’s stay. Besides, for the first time my husband decided not to be a lazy and did the bookings way ahead of time. Thanks to his newly acquired zest after getting married to me making me feel silently amused from within. Peak season the price might be bit higher, but, I vouch for the value for money this property gives. You can book through booking.com in case you need a free cancellation facility.

Location

Location is a bit tricky one. Most of the tourist places and happening places are not very nearby. However, it has its own perks of being located in a quiet place along with other luxurious properties of south eastern coast which ensures a relaxed vacation. If you are game for a lazy vacation, my expert advice would be, lazy around the beach sipping some wines and wander in the garden searching for some butterfly. If you feel like walking little bit, you can walk towards the beach, around half a kilometre away there is a small temple with beautiful Balinese flowers.

Near by temple

For the evening you can opt for sunset view from Uluwatu temple which is around 20 km and nice sea food and drinks in Jimbaran beach which is around 9 km. Kuta beach is around 15 km away.

Denpasar airport is just 12 kilometres from the resort.

Rooms and suites

Melia has total 494 beautiful, spacious rooms and suites with facilities ranging from coffeemakers, minibars, safes, AC, room service and all other basic amenities. The rooms range from single and double Melia guest room, family rooms, garden villas with private pools to level lagoon access suite. We were upgraded from “premium room garden view” to “family room”. Family room is spacious, with beautiful garden view. Décor is contemporary with local Indonesian touch. The rooms has beautiful wooden ceilings, wooden floors and wooden wall millwork. Bathrooms are spacious with bath tubs and all amenities like hair dryers and premium soaps, conditioners, shampoos etc. I got really attached to the aroma of free conditioners and body lotion and decided to lift them all back home to India and continue to relish my amazing Bali trip for a long time till I ran out of them 😉

When I enquired with a rich fellow traveller residing in one of the villas, he said he got huge bath tub and an outdoor shower. I couldn’t decipher the meaning of outdoor shower but nevertheless, it sounded fancy and adventurous to me.

Food and Beverage

One good pros about the property is, you can book an all-inclusive package including food and drinks. However, I don’t personally recommend that. With in-house 24 hour coffee shop, five restaurants including a beach restaurant, food variety is vast ranging from continental to Japanese to Indonesian.  and also the quality is fair enough. However, I found both food and drinks to be costly without much value for money. Thus, you can opt for in house restaurant just to try out the cuisines once. We tried Sakura, Japanese restaurant and the beach side restaurant. Both the places, food was good. The drinks however, I felt were a bit diluted.

The private beach with beautiful lounge chairs and a bar easily steals the show. You can lie down beside the beach with undisturbed supply of drinks and food from the beach bar with cheerful waiters ever ready to serve you. Second pretty thing is the humongous lagoon style swimming pool surrounded by lounge chairs with parasols.

Melia is loaded with all possible amenities for a comfort holiday. Apart from the private beach and the pool, it has multiple restaurants, huge conference rooms for meeting, wedding services and venue, Spa, gym, on and off Wi-Fi. You name it, and they’ve got it.

The resort also organises various activities for free like yoga classes, beach sports, temple visits, and numerous cultural activities. Apart from that it offers wide range of activities exclusively for children.

Guests arriving in early morning and checking out late in the night have access to comfortable waiting lounge with changing area, free drinks and snacks, TV and access to all the other resort facilities.
